Motorola hidden codes — valid for almost all GSM models
Enter directly from the main screen without opening any menu.
- *#06# — Show IMEI
- *#300# — Software information and version
- *#301# — Keyboard test
- *#302# — Audio and microphone test
- *#303# — Display test
- *#304# — Vibration test
- *#307# — Engineering mode
- 000000 — Factory security code
- 1234 — Standard lock code
- 19980722 — StarTAC master unlock
The codes 1234 and 000000 were the default codes on almost all Motorola GSM models until 2005.
Motorola StarTAC — forgotten code, no network, battery
The Motorola StarTAC was the first flip phone in history and is today one of the most sought-after collector's items in the world.
Forgotten code or locked phone:
- Menu → Lock Secure → Secure Options → Master Reset
- Enter factory code: 000000. If not: try 1234 or 19980722
No network or SIM not recognised:
- SIM must be active on GSM 900 — StarTAC does not support 4G/5G
- Clean SIM contacts with a dry cloth
- Menu → Settings → Network → Manual search
Battery not charging: Original StarTAC batteries are depleted on almost all units. Solution: compatible NiMH battery or external desktop charger.
Motorola MicroTAC — the first modern flip phone
Screen without contrast or unreadable: Menu → Display → Contrast. If display completely black but phone rings: LCD screen has deteriorated.
Phone won't turn on:
- Hold power button for 10 seconds
- Connect to original charger for at least 30 minutes
- If NiMH battery completely flat: replacement required
Saved content lost: MicroTAC stores contacts in volatile memory — if battery completely flat, all data is irretrievably lost.
Motorola RAZR V3 — black screen, keyboard, constant restarts
The Motorola RAZR V3 was the best-selling phone in the world in 2005.
Reset via menu: Settings → Initial Setup → Master Reset. Code: 000000 or 1234
Completely black screen with phone on:
- Hold side volume key for 10 seconds
- Remove battery for 5 minutes and reinsert
- If problem persists: display flat cable may have come loose
Keyboard not responding: Clean contacts with isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds. Resolved in most cases.
Constant restarts or frozen on logo: Cause: damaged software. Solution: firmware reinstallation via RSD Lite with original mini-USB cable.
Motorola V50, V51 and V3688 — SIM not recognised, no network
SIM not recognised:
- Check standard SIM format (mini-SIM) — no micro or nano SIM without adapter
- Clean gold contacts with pencil eraser
- Check SIM tray for deformation
- Try a different SIM card
No network after inserting SIM:
- Menu → Settings → Network → Automatic search
- Check if SIM supports GSM 900 MHz
Phone frozen on logo:
- Remove battery and SIM
- Hold # key while inserting battery
- Hidden service menu → Format Memory (erases all data)

Motorola Timeport — network and configuration
No network or weak signal: Timeport supports GSM 900/1800/1900. If no network: Menu → Settings → Network → Band selection → GSM 900/1800. Deactivate band 1900 (USA).
SIM locked PUK: PUK is on the SIM card in the activation envelope or at operator customer service. Warning: 10 wrong PUK attempts permanently destroy the SIM.
Motorola 8000 series — collector's items only
The Motorola 8700, 8400 and 8500X are analogue ETACS phones from the 80s and 90s. The ETACS network was permanently shut down in 2003. Display and collector's pieces only.

Motorola CD930 and CD920 — SIM and startup
The CD930 uses a direct pressure SIM reader without a tray. If SIM not recognised: clean reader contacts with isopropyl alcohol, check metal blades for deformation.
