Forgotten your Nokia security code? Codes, soft reset and hard reset

Have you forgotten the security code of your Nokia? On many Nokia models the default code was set at the factory and often had not been changed. This guide collects procedures used over the years on Nokia Symbian phones and vintage models.

Nokia default security code

On most Nokia phones the original code was:

12345

Try this code first. If the phone accepts it, no reset is needed.

Nokia Soft Reset

If the phone enters the menu: Enter: *#7780# Possible request — Security code: 12345 This reset generally keeps personal data and contacts.

Full Nokia Hard Reset

If the phone remains locked: Enter: *#7370# Code: 12345 Warning: The reset may erase memory and settings.

Reset with key combination

On many Symbian models — hold down together:

  • Green key
  • 3
  • Power button

Hold down until the logo appears.

Frequently compatible with:

  • Nokia N95
  • Nokia N70
  • Nokia N73
  • Nokia E71
  • Nokia N96

If the code has been changed

If someone changed the original code:

  • Try old codes used
  • Remove SIM and memory card
  • Try reset with key combination
